![]() When I coded my 'Fairway' game for the (now very primitive) Psion palmtop, I had to keep everything 'flat', i.e. So there's an unspoken reliance on the new graphics acceleration chips in the new Symbian^3-powered hardware. You'll remember that this is only available on the Nokia N8 at the moment, in this form. But it's also an indication of just how much is being done, graphically. Now, the fact that Real Golf 2011 HD takes a good 30 seconds to load up fully and there's another 10 seconds between holes would normally be considered a downside to the title - and indeed it is. Even the statistic graphics animate as they would in 'TV' coverage. As with the very best golf titles on the consoles of today, arty camera pans, close-ups of your player's expressions and generally 'interesting' camera angles are very much represented. In fact, this TV theme pervades Real Golf 2011 HD, to its credit. As you pick a player to play 'as' and as you pick a course to play on, the (audio) commentator gives a TV-style accompaniment. Club head highlights glint, the backdrop pans smoothly, and so on. ![]() The set up screens are pretty and full animated. Real Golf 2011 HD has two basic game modes: Instant, where you get assigned five random holes from the various courses on offer, and Tournament - the main event - where you try to go round in as few shots as possible (naturally). a solitary 'good walk spoiled' but with commentary and clapping coming from invisible 'others', and probably a number of other mobile and console titles, but I'm just sayin' - a few people dotted about would have been nice, Gameloft? In fairness, Tiger Woods on the Wii console has the same set up, i.e. Which is odd, because the digital soundtrack has (in addition to swing, wind and extraneous sound effects) both a commentary from an American golf broadcaster (so you know he's 'watching'!) and plenty of clapping and cheering, from the - ahem - invisible masses. Yes, there's a 'Leaderboard' high score table - showing the lowest rounds across the world for each of the eight courses supplied - can you come in under par and compete with the best players? - which is good to have, but the in-game experience is pretty solitary - there aren't even any spectators dotted around the course to cheer you on. This is all about the golfing experience - it's you against the course and conditions. If you're expecting multiplayer action or even scoring in tournaments against virtual computer players then you're going to be disappointed. I should, however, point out that the emphasis in Real Golf 2011 HD is on 'golf' and not 'game'. ![]() And Real Golf 2011 HD is one of the most ambitious and one of the very best. I've reviewed many over the years, on Nintendo DS, on the iPhone, and, of course, on Symbian smartphones. With that confession out of the way, I hope I've established that I know what makes for a good golf game. My Psion game 'Fairway', adapted for the Nokia Communicator, circa 2002! And the closest thing I have to a day job, 18 years later, is writing for All About Symbian and for its Ovi Gaming sister site. Back in 1992 (the dawn of time), I made my name with a golf game called 'Pitch and Putt' for the Psion Series 3 - this became Fairway and 'Series 5 Golf' in various evolutions and guises over the next five years (example screen below!) My golf games got me started on Mapper and other projects, including the 3-Lib shareware library, and I quickly went full-time and gave up my day job. As with any golf game review, before going any further, I have to confess a little history.

Our brains are visual - a new concept rendered with a picture can be digested in a fraction of the time compared to a verbal or written description. ![]() Consider the classic example of road signs - our highly visual brains will more quickly grasp a concept rendered pictographically, rather than strictly in writing. Dual coding has advanced our understanding of visual learning as a necessity rather than a nice-to-have, as even a simple icon or pictogram, when paired with a concept in writing, will “stick” in a student’s mind far more effectively than the written concept alone. The Importance of Visual Learningĭual Coding Theory, first coined by Allan Paivio, recognizes that learners absorb information more easily - and can better retrieve it later on - when they’re given both verbal and visual cues to “encode” a concept in their minds. Each of these Google Slides templates can be duplicated for editing, or simply browsed for your own inspiration. We’ve created a suite of simple, icon-loaded education templates to print or use digitally. Now, as teachers around the world shift to remote learning, piecing together lesson plans and materials for virtual classrooms can be even more challenging. The use of visual aids in education has proven vital for classrooms since time immemorial, from preschool through senior year. Educators have always been faced with a daunting but heroic task: breaking down key concepts to make lesson plans both memorable and engaging enough to hold students’ attention. ![]()
![]() Let's compare three more molecules here, to finish this off. As you increase the branching, you decrease the boiling points because you decrease the surface area for the attractive forces. So we can say for our trend here, as you increase the branching, right? So not talk about number of carbons here. Neopentane has more branching and a decreased boiling point. Same number of hydrogens, but we have different boiling points. Number of carbons, right? Same number of carbons, Temperature and pressure, pentane is still a liquid. So we haven't reached theīoiling point of pentane, which means at room Point of 36 degrees C, which is higher than room temperature. Whereas, if you look at pentane, pentane has a boiling So at room temperature and room pressure, neopentane is a gas, right? The molecules have enough energy already to break free of each other. Right? We are already higher than the boiling point of neopentane. Pretty close to 25 degrees C, think about the state So most of the time, you see it listed as being between 20 and 25. Think of room temperature as being pretty close to 25 degrees C. So the boiling point isĭown to 10 degrees C. And because there's decreasedĪttractive forces, right, that lowers the boiling point. And that means that there'sĭecreased attractive forces between molecules of neopentane. But these two neopentane molecules, because of their shape,īecause of this branching, right, we don't get as much surface area. Get increased surface area and increased attractive forces. Two molecules of pentane on top of each other and Of pentane, right? We can kind of stack these And if you think about the surface area, all right, for an attractionīetween these two molecules, it's a much smaller surface area than for the two molecules This molecule of neopentane on the right as being roughly spherical. Sphere, so spherical, and just try to imagine This molecule of neopentane on the left as being a So it's just an approximation, but if you could imagine The shape of neopentane in three dimensions resembles a sphere. So if I draw in another molecule of neopentane, all right, and I think about the attractive forces between these two molecules of neopentane, it must once again be Transient attractive forces between those two molecules. Of pentane, all right, we just talk about the fact that London dispersion forces exist between these two molecules of pentane. Has some branching, right? So neopentane has branching, All right? So the same molecular formula, C5 H12. So these two compounds have the same molecular formula. What about neopentane on the right? Well, there's one, two, three, four, five carbons, so five carbons, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11 and 12 hydrogens. C5 H12 is the molecularįormula for pentane. And if we count up our hydrogens, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11 and 12. So on the left down here, once again we have pentane, all right, with a boiling Let's compare, let'sĬompare a straight chain to a branched hydrocarbon. So this is an exampleĬomparing two molecules that have straight chains. So as you increase the number of carbons in your carbon chain, you get an increase in theīoiling point of your compound. So hexane has a higherīoiling point than pentane. Means it takes more energy for those molecules to So the two molecules of hexane attract each other more than the two molecules of pentane. So I can show even more attraction between these two molecules of hexane. We have more opportunity for London dispersion forces. If I draw in another molecule of hexane, so over here, I'll draw in another one, hexane is a larger hydrocarbon, with more surface area. Transient attractive forces between these two molecules of pentane. So I could represent the London dispersion forces like this. They are attractions between molecules that only exist for a London dispersion forces are the weakest of our intermolecular forces. London dispersion forces, so London dispersion forces exist between these two molecules of pentane. Intermolecular force that exists between two non-polar molecules, that would of course be the Intermolecular forces that exist between those Hexane has six carbons, one, two, three, four, five, and six. ![]() ![]() Pentane has five carbons, one, two, three, four, five, so five carbons for pentane. ![]() These are both hydrocarbons, which means they contain Pentane on the left and hexane on the right. And those attractionsīetween the molecules are called the intermolecular forces. In simple scenes and exteriors, path tracing is usually sufficient. Depending on the kind of scene and whether you’re rendering a single image or an animation, choosing the right algorithm can speed up rendering significantly. LuxCoreRender features various render algorithms. This allows it to accurately capture a wide range of phenomena which most other rendering programs are simply unable to reproduce. LuxCoreRender is a physically based and unbiased rendering engine based on state of the art algorithms. Image 2 below was done with the opposite: camera gain up a lot, color of the wall almost to 0, amount of air scattering tuned.Lux & Love by Charles Nandeya Ehouman (Sharlybg) At your gain, the green beam will simply fall below the brightness of the wall. See how faint the dusty air scatter is now. ![]() Now it is about as bright as the green in yours. Image 1 below is with the camera gain turned down a factor of 100. You have to consider the difference in brightness between the green spot on the floor and the caustic on the ceiling. This might not make sense in this particular scene, but perhaps a hint for future applications. For this I used cross-section models of the lenses and used a null-material on the cross-section face. I have made a visualisation of a lens system before, including such scattered rays. Same reason goes for path tracing, as the laser is also of non-intersectable type. And as the camera is a non-intersectable object, the "random hit after random scattering"-way also won't work. The reason is that the scattering inside the glass would have to connect to the camera through a specular glass surface. Want to back this issue? Post a bounty on it! We accept bounties via Bountysource. However, shouldn't there also be a green volumetric caustic coming out of the bottom of the prism and joining the green patch? Luxrender does know about these internal reflections, as demonstrated by the presence of a green patch of light at the bottom of the scene (I have set the prism reflection color to pure green to highlight the problem). That light also gets internally reflected twice to produce a secondary light beam that comes out from the bottom of the prism. The second issue feels like a straight bug: the light that gets into the prism is properly refracted and dispersed twice (once upon entry, once upon exit) to form a beautiful exit volumetric caustic on the left side of the prism. The only way I've found to get those to show up is to set the opacity of the glass shaders to 50%, which unfortunately ruins the whole scene because half of the light isn't affected by the object and bounces all over the place. The first issue is something I've experienced in many light simulation scene with luxcore: its seems to be quasi-impossible to render the volumetric caustics inside the glass spheres and prism, even though they have a high-priority inner volume shader with non-zero scattering.See attached render and blender file to understand. The whole scene, including camera is fully enclosed in a box to "keep all energy in". The whole scene is "immersed" in a world homogeneous volume with scatt=0.01 and low priority (pri=0) whereas all the glasses have pri=10 White diffuse screen (ceiling of enclosing box) Sphere 3: inner homogeneous volume (scatt=0.01) and glass shader (no dispersion, index=1.3, white trans. Sphere 1: inner homogeneous volume (scatt=0.01) and glass shader (no dispersion, index=1.3, white trans. The attached scene works as follows (=> means : sends light to) Summary: In a somewhat complex volumetric caustic rendering scene, it looks like luxcore fails to render some volumetric caustics. If the mask couldn’t reliably seal to the face of a soldier, they were worthless. The gas masks they developed had to completely protect soldiers from deadly gases and protect their eyes. To combat the potential danger of debilitating and deadly gas attacks, each country’s military quickly began researching apparatuses for protecting their soldiers. Easily able to blister skin, and blind soldiers, the toxic gas would ravage a person’s lungs. Contact with mustard gas could quickly cause second and third-degree burns. Mustard gas, however, was much harder to stop, and much more damaging. Since the chlorine was water soluble, decontamination and cleanup were relatively easy. Luckily, they could be easily countered by covering a soldiers mouth with water or urine-soaked rags. Without the protection of their ad-hoc subterranean bunkers, soldiers became easy-pickings for enemy machine-gun fire.Ī gas attack could take an unprepared regiment by surprise, but as training caught up, soldiers became prepare for dealing with chlorine gas. The regions between trenches, however, were known as “no man’s land” for a reason. Sometimes, the gas wasn’t meant to injure enemies directly, but just cause enough panic to send them over the trench wall in terror. As the poison spread into trenches filled with tired, wars-hocked and soggy soldiers the coughing would spread, igniting days or weeks of pent-up claustrophobia.
